Open Rank in Quantum Information Science & Engineering - University of New Mexico

The University of New Mexico (UNM) is conducting a search to hire a diverse cohort of outstanding faculty in the areas of theoretical quantum information science, quantum computing algorithms and applications, experimental quantum optics/AMO quantum physics, and experimental quantum materials and systems. The positions are open rank, with initial appointments commensurate with experience and qualifications. Successful candidates will become members of academic departments in the School of Engineering and/or College of Arts and Sciences, including, but not limited to, Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Computer Science, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics & Astronomy. Candidates will also have the opportunity to affiliate with some of UNM’s world-class research centers including the Center for Quantum Information and Control (CQuIC), the Center for High Technology Materials (CHTM), and the Center for Advanced Research Computing (CARC). Successful candidates will help to grow the interdisciplinary program in Quantum Information Science and Engineering (QISE) across the university and participate in the newly launched Quantum New Mexico (QNM) initiative. QNM has been established as a partnership between with the University of New Mexico and Sandia National Laboratories, with opportunities to grow collaborative research and education with other national laboratories and universities across the state of New Mexico.

These positions are for tenured and tenure-track faculty in the School of Engineering and/or College of Arts and Sciences. Tenured and tenure-track faculty in the school/college are fully funded academic year (9 month) positions.

Instructional Laboratory Manager - UCLA

In consultation with and under direction of the MQST Program Director, the incumbent will provide technical expertise and professional engineering support for the Master of Quantum Science and Technology instructional laboratories. They will apply physics/engineering concepts to participate in the research-validated design of new instructional laboratory curriculum, maintain and continually improve existing laboratory curriculum and associated equipment, and be primarily responsible for the physical laboratory spaces and all lab equipment. Provide leadership and instructional impact by providing expertise and oversight of the creation of new laboratory experiments, the purpose of which is to illustrate important physical phenomena of relevance to QST applications together with the development of transferable laboratory skills. In consultation with faculty, apply scientific and engineering knowledge to plan the implementation and deployment of instructional lab equipment, help instructors supervise teaching assistants assigned to MQST instructional labs, and ensure their proper training on the procedures of all laboratory modules. Independently manage the instructional laboratory budget(s) and organize engineering projects that maintain, refine, repair, and improve the existing experiments. Maintain and create documentation explaining the theory underpinning all laboratory experiments and the operation of all equipment required to complete the labs. Organize, maintain and solve problems with laboratory infrastructure and computers. Consult with course instructors to manage conflicting demands on students time and on timely and equitable use of lab equipment. Provide leadership in the design of new curricular materials and teaching methods to improve the laboratory instructional component of the MQST program. Take ownership of other duties as demanded and needed for the implementation of the MQST laboratory curriculum.

Lecturer - Quantum Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

The Department of Physics and Astronomy is seeking to appoint a new permanent lectureship (assistant professor equivalent) in Quantum Machine Learning, at the intersection of physics, quantum information, quantum technology, and machine learning (ML).

We seek a candidate who has evidence of research output in one or more areas of quantum machine learning, including:

  • Applying quantum computing to ML to achieve quantum advantages over classical approaches,

  • Using classical ML to tackle problems in quantum science,

  • Developing quantum computing approaches to deal with ML problems involving quantum data

The successful applicant will initiate a research programme and develop collaboration across world-leading research in the Department spanning cosmology to high-energy physics, nanoscience, photonics, and quantum theory.

Assistant Professor - Quantum Science/Quantum Computing

The Department of Physics, The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites applications from highly qualified candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in broad area of quantum science and quantum computing. Interest is in candidates with expertise in areas of quantum science that complements current areas of expertise in the department.

Postdoctoral Position - Naval Research Laboratory, Monterey

The Naval Research Laboratory in Monterey, California is looking to hire a postdoc to work on quantum algorithm development for solving partial differential equations or a related project that is relevant to fluid dynamics problems.
