Partnerships

A central goal of our partnerships with the Simons Institute and Institute for Pure & Applied Mathematics (IPAM) is to accelerate the expansion of quantum computer science. These partnerships are supported by about 20% of the requested budget and established both institutes as the premier international centers for quantum computer science and applied mathematics.

Simons Institute

Established on July 1, 2012, with a grant from the Simons Foundation, the Simons Institute is housed in Calvin Lab, a dedicated building on the UC Berkeley campus. The Institute brings together the world's leading researchers in theoretical computer science and related fields, as well as the next generation of outstanding young scholars, to explore deep unsolved problems about the nature and limits of computation.

Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics

The CIQC partners with IPAM to connect quantum scientists and engineers with leading mathematicians to tackle fundamental problems. This partnership features workshops, winter schools, the Quantum RIPS program, and a long program.

Industry

Our partnerships with industry and National Laboratories are based on synergy and complementarity.  Our research addressing key fundamental challenges is informed by needs and capabilities in the growing industries based on quantum technologies, as well as the DOE Quantum Testbeds, and provides an independent reference point for assessment of advances and new opportunities.  We shall work with the Quantum Economic Development Consortium (QED-C) to support and enhance the QI science and technology ecosystem.
We envisage eventual three-way partnerships between our center, partner industries, and national laboratories that enable “sandbox” environments for joint exploration by all partners  to exploit their complementary strengths.
